Affordable Housing
Our goal is to provide Safe, Secure, Affordable Housing for low-income seniors. We strive to provide an environment we would be proud to have our parents call home.
Met Council has been a leader in producing affordable housing for special needs populations in New York City. By leveraging private and public money, our housing portfolio has grown to 1,201 units under management. Of this total, approximately 1,071 units are for the elderly and 130 units are targeted to the homeless. On-site social services are available for residents at each property.
What makes Met Council unique from other housing organizations is the range of services we bring to our residents. These services are delivered by an outstanding network of social services agencies and Jewish Community Councils as well as on-site staff. Residents not only get a comfortable and affordable place to live, they also get comprehensive social services to meet their needs.
Housing for the elderly through the inclusionary housing program
The intent of this program is to integrate low-income housing into the very area in which it would not ordinarily be economically viable. It provides an opportunity for households with less than 80% of the median income to enjoy the vitality of mid-Manhattan. Met Council has devoted these buildings entirely and exclusively to senior citizens, 62 and older.
housing for the elderly through the Federal Section 202 Program
Met Council has developed 710 units of federally financed housing in four separate buildings for low-income independent elderly individuals and couples. The projects were financed through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 202 Program and grants from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation.
